Outpatient costs insurance

Many medical expenses arise without you being admitted to the hospital. Think of consultations with a doctor, physiotherapy, medical examinations, or medication. Although these treatments are often necessary, they are not always fully reimbursed by health insurance.

With outpatient care insurance, you are better protected against these everyday medical expenses. This insurance covers medical treatments that do not require hospitalization and often complements your hospitalization insurance. This way, you avoid frequent medical costs taking a heavy toll on your budget.

Van Dessel is happy to help you choose a plan that matches your health needs and financial expectations.

What is an outpatient costs insurance?

An outpatient expenses insurance covers medical costs that occur without hospital admission. This refers to care you receive from a doctor or specialist, or treatments after which you simply go home following the consultation.

This insurance is often used as a supplement to a hospitalisation insurance, as the latter usually only covers costs that are directly related to admission to a hospital.  An outpatient expenses insurance can cover, among other things:

  • Visits to doctors or specialists
  • Medical analyses and examinations
  • Physiotherapy or other paramedical treatments
  • Prescription medication
  • Medical aids such as glasses or hearing aids

This insurance helps you better manage your everyday medical expenses.

What are the advantages?

Covers medical expenses that do not require hospitalization.

Covers consultations with doctors, specialists and paramedics.

Covers costs for medicines, medical examinations, and medical aids.

Covers medical expenses that are not fully reimbursed by health insurance.

Who is this insurance for?

An outpatient costs insurance can be interesting for many individuals, for example:

  • Families with children
  • People requiring regular medical follow-up
  • Individuals with chronic conditions
  • People who want to better budget their medical expenses

Even if you already have a hospitalization insurance, this insurance can be a valuable addition, as many medical expenses occur outside of hospital admission.

What is covered and what is not?

What is covered?

  • Consultations with a GP or specialist
  • Medical examinations and diagnostic imaging
  • Paramedical treatments such as physiotherapy
  • Prescription medicines
  • Medical aids such as orthopaedic devices or hearing aids

What is not covered?

  • Costs incurred during a hospital stay
  • Cosmetic procedures without medical necessity
  • Treatments that are not covered
  • Pre-existing conditions (depending on the policy)

How much does this insurance cost?

The premium of outpatient expense insurance depends on various factors, such as:

  • Your age
  • Your state of health
  • The coverage options chosen
  • The maximum annual reimbursement

Many insurance policies work with an annual cap or reimbursement percentage for medical expenses. The premium generally remains limited compared to the possible medical expenses you can cover with it.

Van Dessel helps you find a plan that offers a good balance between premium and coverage.
