Why insure your commercial vehicles comprehensively?

The compulsory liability insurance only covers damage that you cause to third parties. Damage to your own vehicle will not be reimbursed. That’s why it is best to take out an additional cover for this: a comprehensive insurance. This extension is not required by law, but is certainly recommended in a number of cases.

Which risks does a comprehensive insurance cover?

A full omnium or fully comprehensive insurance covers almost all damage to your own vehicle, regardless of whether you are liable or not:

  • fire,
  • glass breakage,
  • natural forces, storm and hail,
  • collision with animals,
  • (attempted) burglary or theft,
  • damage from martens,
  • damage that you have caused yourself,
  • hit and run,
  • vandalism,
  • etc.

A semi-comprehensive insurance covers a large part of these risks. The difference compared to a fully comprehensive insurance is mainly in the forms of “own damage” that are not insured in a semi-comprehensive insurance. So it’s best to consult with your broker which formula is most suitable for you.

To what should you pay attention when taking out comprehensive insurance for your vehicles for professional use?

The civil liability and comprehensive insurance covers the damage to third parties and to your own vehicle, but not damage and injuries sustained by the driver. You can take out an insurance with a driver insurance.
