Insurance brokers Bokiau and Van Dessel merge into one of the major insurance brokers in Belgium.

Brussels, 16 March 2009. The family insurance offices Van Dessel and Bokiau will merge on 30 June 2009 at the latest. With a premium volume of 180 million euros the new merger company will form part of the top 5 of the Belgian insurance brokers. It has offices in Belgium, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and it is a member of several international insurance networks, offering its clients services worldwide.

By the strong presence of Van Dessel in Flanders and in Wallonia, the merger company acquires a strong national anchorage. Both companies are specialised in the same segments of Companies, Road Transport and Logistics, and Private Persons whereby they still strengthen their leader's role. But they are also very active in the Passenger Transport and Life niches. They will also further extend other activities such as Credit Insurance, Risk Management and Solutions for the Service Sector.

According to CEO Renier Hoedemakers, the companies’ plans are a logic consequence to guarantee growth and quality. “The two companies are very complementary, and we intend to further develop their synergies.” Ghent-based broker Concordia would initially also form part of the new merger company. By lack of consensus with regard to an equitable exchange proportion it was jointly decided to put an end to the merger conversations. Where possible, the operational collaboration will, however, be further developed.

In addition, Hoedemakers points out that by this merger the shareholders will couple the strength of a family business to the key advantages of a big company. “We keep on investing further in our staff and the expansion of our offices, both locally and internationally, because we wish to stay close to our clients. This is our strength!” says Mr Hoedemakers.

During the months to come, the structures will be further refined. The new merger company will be under the direction of Renier Hoedemakers, assisted by Patrick Verlinden Vice CEO, and François Grafé, Vice CEO, and the management committee.
